The Stanislaus National Forest service does not currently require permits for whitewater rafting on the North Fork Stanislaus River, unless you are a commercial outfitter. Whitewater rafters and kayakers are responsible for insuring that they have the proper skills, experience and equipment to safely navigate this Class IV river. To prevent overcrowding on the river, boaters are encouraged to alternate their departures at put-in and take-out with commercial rafting trips. Please contact the Calaveras Ranger District or Calaveras Big Trees State Park for further information.
